By the time we were wrapping up our second book, NI’A, the actual Ni’a, the child of the actual Phage, who was less than a year old at that point, decided that they needed to be the one to write the sequel.
They had ideas! So, delighted to see what they had in mind, we stepped aside and let them go at it. Thus, this book, OUTSIDER.
System members or headmates do not always mature in the same way that singlets do. Sometimes, like in Ni’a’s case, they have help.
But also, our books are never a solo project for any of us. They’re more like role playing games or improve exercises, where the “author” serves as the game master, and the rest of the cast decides what they do in response to the prompts. On the other hand, while it may seem like we write by the seat of our pants, there usually is a plan and an ending we’re striving for. So it’s not complete chaos.
Still, this one may have the most unconventional structure of all of our books. It is, in a way, a much needed denouement to the previous two. If you’ve read NI’A, you already know you’re going to at least start reading OUTSIDER. It was kind of a cliffhanger, after all. They’re really more like one book split in two.
And, as one of our readers commented when they got to the end of it, “Fuck. Now we wish this wasn’t fiction.”
You can get it from our itchio page, if you’d like to use that to kick a few bucks our way:

Or you can download it right here, in case itchio is censoring us for some reason:

We appreciate all the support that you can show us, but we’re so happy if you just have copies of our books and enjoy them!
OUTSIDER
It has been 137 days since Ni’a returned to the Sunspot without Phage. 137 days during which Ni’a has been responsible for managing the inherent chaos of the complex system that is the ship, unaided, unguided.
It’s not until Phage returns, in the middle of a picnic with Ni’a’s family, that Ni’a begins to slip, and their life starts to fray at the edges.
And the aftermath of The Screaming begins to all tumble down around them.
OUTSIDER is the sequel to the second book of the Sunspot Chroncles, NI’A, and wraps up the story of the Sunspot’s greatest revolution since its founding, but from a personal perspective.
