This is the first book of the Tunnel Apparati Diaries, the sequel series to the Sunspot Chronicles.
Our original inspiration for this series of work was to create something that we could maybe peddle to traditional publishers, so we delved into the wide world of writing stories that have humans in them, because that maybe might be more salable. But, probably, that’s the only “marketing decision” we made for this series. It also compelled us artistically, because, for some reason, we do really like a good crossed worlds story where humanity encounters people from another world through unusual means like a portal or wormhole or such. Also, this would once and for all clearly establish that the ktletaccete of the Sunspot are not actually human.
It also gave us the opportunity to write directly about experiences we’ve had while living here on Earth and gave us a very strong taste for doing that.
In this case, a trans feminine plural system living in Portland, Oregon, finds that they have one end of an informational wormhole in their psyche (the Tunnel Apparatus), put there by their childhood “imaginary friend” Phage. And Phage, who is still around, suggests that they start playing host to some visitors, starting with Ashwin Pember. The book is written from Ashwin’s point of view, an alien learning how to navigate a 21st century Earth culture from their new headmates. There’s a lot of wonder, but there’s also a variety of horror.
Traditional publishing didn’t work out, mostly because we were too impatient to get these stories out to our readers. But, also, it turns out that doing business with anyone who can be seen as an authority, boss, or contractual superior is too traumatizing and we shut down for weeks to months when we try it. So, in order to keep writing at all, we went back to self publishing.

THE END OF THE TUNNEL
Learning how to live in an autistic transgender plural system in Portland, Oregon proves a difficult and exotic challenge for Ashwin Pember, former resident of the Sunspot. Even with the help of a brain that automatically translates language into meaning for them, and the assistance of a mysterious and powerful being that arranged the contact, the culture shock is significant. Still, Ashwin is quick to make friends with their hosts, Sarah and Goreth, and their loved ones. Which is good, because it just so happens that Earth is in jeopardy in the mean time, due to present Ktletaccete technology, and something must be done about it.
